Its a bit rough and ready but here’s how I made my house – fancy a go?!
Make a pattern
Cut out card templates and inner fabric with about an inch allowance
Use spray glue to stick lining to each card template and sellotape to secure the ‘hem’
Cut outer walls – I used thick felt – with no allowance
Design what your house will look like – cut out scraps of felt, steal buttons, chop up trim…whatever!
Time for fun!! Embroider and embellish those bits of felt! Stick to the card, wrong sides together. I used 555 Fabric Spray Glue.
Decide what you want on the inside – here I made a needle holder using ribbon and felt square. Tuck between front and back of the wall as appropriate. Blanket stitch all the way round each wall/floor/roof to secure the lining to the front felt. Yes. really.
Whip stitch he pieces together – you can choose to attach the roof like this or use felt ‘hinges’ – I used a bit of both in the end.
Decide how the house will fasten together. I used buttons on each corner with thread loops to do up each side. The roof sits closed by virtue of gravity. You could use velcro or magnetic fasteners if you are feeling adventurous.
